WWT Educators Workshop

This workshop is geared toward educators at all levels who are interested in using WWT to teach astronomy in their classrooms.

9am -12pm:  WWT in the Classroom

  • Overview of WWT Interface
  • Introducing WWT to Students
  • Sample topics, and WWT activities to help students visualize them
    • Seasons
    • Moon Phases
    • Orientation and Scale of our Solar System relative to local stars, the Milky Way, and other galaxies.
    • The Ecliptic: why do all planets follow the same path as the Sun?
    • Parallax: how does it help astronomers measure distances to nearby stars?
  • Misconceptions to help students avoid when using WWT
  • The WWTA website - sharing your new materials with other educators

12pm-1pm:  Lunch served

1pm-3pm:  WWT Tour Authoring Basics

  • For educators who would like to create their own tours for their students to use.  (Please add them to the WWTA collection!)
  • For educators who would like to have their students create tours for research projects and presentations.  (They can upload them to the Sandbox for their friends and families to view.)
