Installing WWT

WWT is free for use by anyone. To download and install Windows desktop client go to

WorldWide Telescope for Mac OSX

To use the desktop client on a Mac requires the Windows operating system.  On a Mac, you need Microsoft® Windows 7 (minimum), Windows® 8 (recommended) license installed on your Mac via Bootcamp, VMWare Fusion, or Parallels. WWT Webclient

If you do not want or do not have admin permissions to install the program on your computer. A second option is the WWT web client that runs in a web browser.

Download and Install WWT Windows Client

Desktop Client:

Check the WorldWide Telescope Website for the most up-to-date version of the software and the most updated system requirements (Windows only).

Use WWT on the Web

Web Client

The web client is a web-based version of WWT that is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux that you can try from any web browser. Some features you may be familiar with from the desktop client are still under construction.

Installing Windows OS on a Mac

If you're a Mac user, and would like to use WWT, there are two ways to do so:

  1. Access and use the WorldWide Telescope webclient 
  2. Install a virtual computer program or Bootcamp your Mac. Once you're able to run Windows, you can download and use the desktop version of WWT.  We've had the most success by running Windows OS via Parallels on our Macs.
